Nurse Meets Baby 28 Years Later And Experiences A Surprise

Vilma Wong, petted David Seminatore as baby for weeks in Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. But now he is taller than her. It's been 28 years since Vilma Wong and Brandon Seminatore saw each other for the last time. At that time he was just a few weeks old and now the two work together. Wong has been a nurse for many years at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Stanford, California.

Almost 30 years ago, her patients included Brandon Seminatore, who was born in the hospital as a premature baby - eleven weeks too early and just 900 grams. For more than 40 days, according to the Inquirer news portal, he spent over 40 minutes on the neonatal intensive care unit where Vilma Wong cared for him on a daily basis until he was finally well off. The nurse would not have expected to see her patient ever again.

But fate was different: Brandon Seminatore decided to study medicine. He is currently completing part of his specialist training as a paediatrician in the hospital, where he was born almost three decades ago. When Wong saw his name on a staff list, she became curious. His last name sounded very familiar, she asked him where he came from and he then told me that he came from San Jose, California, and was actually born premature in our hospital, the nurse tells Inquirer. "I became very suspicious because I could remember being the primary nurse for a baby of the same name."

Naturally, Seminatore looks different today than he was 28 years ago. But finally, the penny has fallen and the two discovered their decades-old connection. For the budding pediatrician a surreal experience as he reveals the "Inquirer". Her patients are very important to her. So much so that she remembered a patient's name almost three decades later. A chance encounter at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has led to a heart warming reunion between nurse and patient.

Brandon, one of our paediatrics training physicians, was born 28 years ago at our neonatal intensive care unit, at just 29 weeks. Vilma was his main nurse. Almost 30 years later, Vilma recognized Brandon's name when he was in our hospital. What a memory! Here is a look at the two then and now.
