NDC leadership pays courtesy call on Sefwi Paramount Chief

The newly elected Western Regional Executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have committed themselves to working with traditional rulers in the Region.

According to the team, they would assist in cementing relationship between Constituency

Executive of the party and all traditional rulers at the local level.

Nana Kojo Toku, the newly elected Regional Chairman, speaking on behalf of the new regional team during a courtesy call on the paramount chief of Sefwi wiaso traditional area, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama (II) he explained that the new administration would strive to bridge the gap between the party and its key stakeholders including chiefs.

He said following the victory chalked during last Saturday's elections, the first major step his leadership would take would include getting closer to all key stakeholders including traditional authorities.

"We know the important role traditional rulers play in society, that is why we would tap their wisdom, through wise counselling to be able to administer activities of the party" Nana noted

He promised to lead an NDC in the Western Region that would show respect, decorum and candour to authorities with emphasis on building healthy relationship with chiefs.

Under the circumstance, he said he would shape and direct the conduct of all executive of the party from the branches, constituency level to the regional level.

"As the leader of the team, I am prepared to learn from relevant authorities. I also know that as leaders at the grassroots level, my branch and constituency executive would follow the right steps in administering activities of the party" he assured.

Nana Toku and his team won massively during the regional contest, placing them on a pole position to work with a united front.

But, the contractor, who has earned the title Chairman Tsunami for securing the landslide victory in the form of Tsunami, said they would neither rest nor do anything untoward to jeopardize with chances of the party in the Western Region ahead of the 2020 elections.

Welcoming the new executive to his palace, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II said he was elated the party accorded him, his traditional area with this respect.

He nonetheless advised the executive to caution their followers to eschew cynicism and misconduct when dealing with traditional authorities.

He said traditional issues are meant for traditional authorities to address whilst political issues remain the comfort zone of politicians.

To this end, he said the two areas shouldn't be mixed else it would go against politicians and that traditional rulers remain custodians of the land.

For that matter, he blasted politicians in his traditional area meddling in chieftaincy affairs and warned NDC members to distance themselves from this misconduct.

"Those politicians meddling in chieftaincy affairs, are you qualified to occupy the seat, even if I abandon it today, can you occupy it, obviously no, that is why you must distance yourself from royalties. Those who are bigger than you and attempted meddling in our affairs couldn't, how much more you" he fumed.

He said the NDC has always been a bigger family and would always remain so as one of the biggest political parties in the country, therefore, few individuals should not be allowed by the leadership to denigrate authorities to cause the downfall of the party.

The tough talking traditional ruler appealed to Nana Toku to streamline activities, and bring to book perpetrators of these conduct, in order to make the party attractive to outsiders.

"If you don't conduct yourselves well, how can you attract new followers. This is a human institution, therefore you must understand how to behave well in order to gain respect and support of all Ghanaians" he counselled.
