The body of an unknown man has been found along the bank of the Volta River at Kpando Torkor in the Volta Region.

The man believed to have been in his 50s, was discovered on Wednesday in the morning after some people spotted him and alerted the Assembly Member of the area.

The Assembly Member for Kpando-Torkor Electoral Area, Gideon Abotsi, said he called his Unit Committee members and the police to the scene, and while taking away the corpse, they saw a telephone number on a piece of paper in his pocket.

Through the phone call, a man in Gubi, a community in the Northern Region, identified the deceased as one Korsi Gawuga, who resided in their community but left to join his father in Agodeke at Afram Plains.

Upon further interrogation, it was revealed that the deceased suffered depression after his wife and children left him due to his drunkenness.

He was on his way to the Afram Plains Community which is near Kpando Torkor upon an invitation from his father.

The cause of his death is not yet known.
The Kpando Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt Prosper Ahlidza, who confirmed the incident to Citi News, said they have begun investigations into the death.
