Mission Wins Books And Boots Community Champions League
Mission U-15 football team from Klagon were crowned champions of the revived Books and Boots Communities Champions League after beating Diamond 1-0 at the Ashaiman Sakasaka Park in Accra.
The Community based event which seeks to enhance the Youth Education by improving their reading skills, as well as develop grassroot football came off on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
Participants began the day with Reading of books with the aid of Reading Coaches, who ensured the kids, read to their own understanding and to others. The day was climaxed with a 7 aside male football which saw 8 communities compete. There was a curtain raiser by the girls, who beautifully thrilled all present with their astonishing performance.
Winners, Mission had a good start by defeating Premier 2-0 before seeing off Sharks 3-2 on penalties after a barren draw in the semifinals.
The 20 minutes per game competition also saw the finalist Diamond dispatch Tottenham 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 regulation scoreline in the prelims. Diamond, from Ashaiman, managed to get to the finals through another exciting shootout against Limo which they won 4-3.
Diamond, in Barcelona's jersey were outclassed by Mission, who were in the Real Madrid’s all white outfit as the Ashaiman’s version of the El-classico had Dancehall Artiste Stonebwoy as an Ambassador.
A wonderful goal scored from a freekick in the first half of the game was enough for the visitors who won the hearts of many with their exceptional passing, dribbles and possession of the ball.
Alhaji Abdul Raheem, Awudu Issaka, Gifty Oware-Aboagye (An Ambassador) were among the many dignitaries present at the one day event.
Ace Broadcast journalist, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, started the Books and Boots Academy, 10 years ago, has the motto ‘Breathing life into dreams’, with Ghana Library Board as partners. Many have acknowledged this initiative, with its target of helping to bring back grassroot football in the country.
Books and Boots, which has Mcdan Group of Companies, as the Head line Sponsor; Active Minds as the Education Partner and Kwese Free Sports as the Official broadcaster, will hit the Tema province for the next edition.
