The NDC in the Brong Ahafo Region last weekend elected new executives at the party’s Delegates Conference held at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.

A total of 925 delegates from all the 29 constituencies in the region participated in the elections which saw 46 aspirants vying for various positions.

Former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo emerged as the new regional Chairman of the party. He went unopposed together with his Secretary Dennis Yeboah Twumasi as well as the Regional Zongo Caucus Co-ordinator, Alhaji Baba Awudu Gausu.

Alhaji Ibrahim Gariba polled 434 votes to become the Regional 1st Vice-Chairman, with Kwadwo Takyi Arhin bagging 212 to take the 2nd Vice-Chairmanship position. The other contestant for the vice-chairmanship position, Alhaji Nasiru Yusifu Farara, lost with 200 votes.

The Regional Assistant Secretaryship position was contested by three persons namely; Mohammed Shamsudeen, Isaac Donkor and Mohammed Abdul-Razak.

At the end of the contest, Mohammed Shamsudeen carried the day with 408 votes. Isaac Donkor had 289 votes while Mohammed Abdul-Razak went home with 156 votes.

The Incumbent Regional Organizer, Mohammed Seidu retained his position with 543 votes, silencing his two challengers – Prince Opoku Mensah who had 198 and Akwasi Lampo who also got 114 votes.

The Deputy Organiser position was won by Charles Asiedu with 553 votes. His other contenders were Abdul Fatau Abass who had 145 as against Gabriel Kwarteng’s 124 votes.

Gapson Kofi Raphael secured the position of the Regional Treasurer with 480 votes as against 375 votes by his only challenger Joseph Abonkrah Manu.

Peter Lonyiam Suaka emerged as the Deputy Treasurer; beating Magyina Kwasi who had 250 votes and Ayomah Moro who managed 228 votes.

Charles Akowuah Tuffuour won the position of the Regional Communications Officer with 543 votes, while Apraku Lartey, a former DCE for Tano North, had 228 votes; with Omoro Zorngo going home with some 86 votes.

The position of Assistant Regional Communications Officer went to Eric Adjei who had 482 votes while his main co-contestant, Ebenezer Awulai Amadu had 380.

A former DCE for Sunyani West is now the Regional Women’s Organiser with Fati Abubakar as her Deputy while Thomas Warlonyo Tsekpo now assumes the role of the Regional Youth Organiser.

Among the large number of NDC faithful who gathered at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani for the delegates conference were the General Secretary of NDC, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the MP for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, Former Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, who is currently the MP for Asunafo South, Former Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare and several others.

The newly-elected Regional Chairman of the NDC, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in the new executives and called for unity among the rank and file of the party to facilitate their electoral victory in 2020.

He pledged to unite all members of the party in the region and bring everyone on board to prosecute the next election campaign of the party.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, who swore the newly elected executives into office, urged all members of the party to throw their weight behind them and burry all their differences in the interest of the party.

The party’s vigilate groups such as the NDC Dragons, Salifu 11 and others were available to provide security at the conference. They were seen in their branded T-shirts and positioned at vantage points at the conference grounds.
