Missing Names Saga Hits On NDC Register
03.09.2018 LISTEN

A FORMER Minister of the Brong Ahafo Region, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, has been elected unopposed to chair the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Brong Ahafo Region into the 2020 election.

However, the regional delegates' conference was nearly marred at the Sunyani Jubilee Park when issues of missing names in the register were detected by some of the delegates.

The confusion brought voting to a standstill as NDC vigilant members called 'The Dragons' rushed to prevent some disgruntled delegates from going to the dais to lodge a complaint with the election committee.

The police at this stage were helpless and it took more than 30 minutes for the 'confusion' to be brought under control.

Apart from Mr. Nyamekye Marfo who went unopposed as chairman, Denis Yeboah Tsumasi was also elected unopposed as secretary.

However, Alhaji Ibrahim Gariba polled 434 to beat Kwadwo Takyi Arhin (212 votes) and Alhaji Nashiru (200 votes) to win the vice-chairman slot.

The incumbent, Mohammed Seidu popularly called Maham, polled 543 to beat his closest challenger, Prince Opoku Mensah (198 votes) and Akwasi Lampo (114 votes) to retain his position as regional organizer.

The youth organizer went to Thomas Tsekpor Walarnyo while the women's organizer went to Agnes Kusi, a former DCE of Sunyani West.

Other positions contested were the deputy secretary, Mohammed (408 votes), and Treasurer Kofi Capson (480 votes).

There were 925 delegates made up of 28 each from 29 constituencies in the region who took part in the election.

The new regional executives were sworn into office by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. He asked them to work hard towards victory for the party in 2020.

The new chairman, Nyamekye Marfo, promised that he and his colleagues were going to work hard to achieve results. He thanked the party for the confidence repose in him when nobody picked a form to contest him when he announced his candidature.
