US Assistant Secretary for Africa calls on Kufuor

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Dr. Jendayi Frazer, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

The Assistant Secretary who was on her first trip to the continent made a stop over in Ghana to discuss bilateral and regional issues with the Government after leading a high-level American delegation to observe the just ended Presidential and Congressional elections in Liberia. She conveyed special greetings from President George Bush and the US Secretary of State, Dr. Condelezza Rice to President Kufuor. She recalled the peace talks held in Ghana that culminated in the signing of a comprehensive peace accord by the Liberian warring factions and thanked President Kufuor for his leadership and efforts that tremendously helped to bring normalcy and put that country back on its feet.

Dr Frazer was also happy about the role Ghanaian soldiers were playing to bring a lasting peace and democracy to Liberia. Responding, President Kufuor said he appreciated the messages from the US President and the Secretary of State. He congratulated the Assistant Secretary who until her elevation served as her country's Ambassador to South Africa, saying, her rise, showed that she might be doing what was right.

He hoped the relations between Ghana and the US would continue to be strengthened and grow deeper.
