Chairman of the governing council of Wa Polytechnic, Prof Daniel Bagah, has denied that the embattled rector of the institution was locked out of his office yesterday.

He posited that Emanuel Owusu Marfo, a professor and rector at the institution, did not ask for the keys to his office from the staff and lecturers nor did he greet them, suggesting that he did not come to work but came to walk about.

Bagah disclosed this in exclusive interview JoyNews shortly after an emergency council meeting at the school.

All 15 members of the governing council at Wa Polytechnic, with the exception of the rector, attended the emergency meeting.

It was held behind closed doors and lasted four hours. The agenda included discussions on the Wa high court ruling, which quashed its decision to suspend Marfo as its rector.

Bagah continued that the discussion was lengthy but fruitful.

“We tried to look at some of the allegations that were leveled against the rector. We looked at them and I think we are getting somewhere.''

He denied that the embattled rector was locked out of his office but rather the latter. He came to walk around the campus.

“I don't think anybody denied him entry. Did he ask for any key? Did he ask for any key? Did he interact with people? He just came started walking around.”

Bagah stated that even though the rector bought a luxurious Mercedes-Benz for GH¢502,000 the school is now paying for the car.

“We are supposed to pay interest on the car. We have not started yet but the debt is accruing every month…and that is what we are fighting against,” he explained.

He assured stakeholders of the Wa Polytechnic not to panic and that the situation is under control.
