By GNA

Kumasi, Oct.11, GNA-A police constable at the Asokwa police station had his ear bitten off by Joseph Agbeko, a 20-year old private security guard at Aboabo Number One, a surburb of Kumasi. Constable Lawrence Nyaaba was detailed to arrest the culprit on a bench warrant issued by the Ashanti New Town magistrate court for refusing to appear before it.

Agbeko was therefore put before a Kumasi circuit court last Wednesday for resisting arrest and causing unlawful harm. His plead was not taken and will re-appear on November 19, 2005. Chief Inspector John Afful told the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yoa Obimpeh that the complainant was detailed to arrest the accused following a bench warrant issued for his arrest by the Ashanti New Town magistrate court for failing to appear before it on a charge of assaulting one Ayariga at Aboabo number one about two months ago. He said when constable Nyaaba went to arrest the accused, he fiercely resisted arrest and a scuffle ensued during which he (accused) allegedly bit off the constable's ear.

Chief Inspector Afful said the accused went into hiding after the incident but was later arrested at his hideout. Meanwhile Constable Nyaaba is to undergo plastic surgery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital (KATH) to repair the deformity. He is therefore, receiving treatment at the hospital pending the surgery.
