Dr. Isaac Breko, a senior a senior lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Education, Winneba, has expressed his support for Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba on her decision to turn down her new appointment as Ghana’s new ambassador to Italy as she bow out of active politics. According to him, her decision is understandable looking at her reasons.
It can be recalled that the President a fortnight ago gave Ms. Djaba an ambassadorial position in his maiden reshuffling when he removed her as the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Ms. Djaba disclosed that she has turned the offer down because she is resigning from active politics. She explained that she wants to relax and enjoy life with her family. As well as to take care of her ex-husband who has had stroke for the past six years.
Speaking on the matter today on Class FM, Dr. Breko emphasized that the Minister’s decision is understandable.
He says that leaving ones country to go and stay in another country is going to take you away from your family for a long time depending on how long your country will want you to serve.
“The duty is going to take you away from your home state to reside in your host state for the length of time that the Government of the day will allow you to be there. And if she is attending to a sick person and in this case a former husband who is down with stroke, then I think that it is very understandable that she should bow out of politics.
He says Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba cannot stay away from her sick husband with such great distance between them when there is nobody to take care of him
The Political Science lecturer further indicated that one will interpret that she is stepping out of politics because of her drop from the ministerial list and her reassignment as an ambassador as a demotion of a kind.
He insists people should rather look at the genuine concerns she has raised and understand her.
