The Hope That Triggers Change

Opinion The Hope That Triggers Change
AUG 18, 2018 LISTEN

The question of how countries who were initially worse than our dear Nigeria managed to turn the tides of event around keeps ruminating on my head. How did these countries managed to become the spectacle the world beheld? Dubai, China, Malaysia, Singapore to mention a few. What then triggered the change they currently witness?

Over the past few weeks, not only have I been devastated by the happenings in the country, it is evident that everyone is tired of this quagmire. The hardship in the land is synchronized into every nook and cranny of the nation. Almost everyone has a hardship story to tell.

I will not be inspired to delve into the numerous failures of this country because not only have we continually aggrandized the problem, we have lost hope that there can be any solution to Nigerian problems.

To compound my woes, my cash conversion experience at the muritalaMohammed international airport gave me another shock, with the revelation that 80 Naira is equivalent to 1 cedis. All these and many more of the many daily occurrences Nigerians witnessdaily can only be the explanation for the mammoth crowd at the International wing of the Lagos airport.

Yet, I believe that the rhetoric that Nigeria cannot be great again or that the Nigeria of our dreams cannot materialize is only true for those who are myopic in their vision by the current realities of our predicament.

Hope is a powerful force that inspires continuous effort to produce result. It is hope that inspires the people of china, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai not to give up on their dreams of a better nation. It is hope for a better nation that triggers their positive imaginations into realities.

Is there still Hope for Nigeria? I believe so!
In spite of all the turbulent realities of our predicament, circumstances that portray little glimmer of hope has continually helped shaped my perception of the future of this great country. The recent events of the #Nottooyoungtorun and #Endsars movement organized by young people provides a ray of hope that perhaps, in consistent pushing for reforms, in unified echoing of citizen’s outcry, in persistent planning, organizing, and positive execution by young people of our clime, the Nigeria our fathers dreamt of may materialize in our time.

It is in this regard that I write to inform you that although, the hope that Nigeria would be great again is but a tiny ray of hope. Yet, it should be enough to propel us into action. The current ray of hope birthed by the #Nottooyoungtorun and #EndSars outcry should give our generation the strength to effect change.

This little hope fans the ember of my belief that we can as millineals outrun the current political elite, that we can produce a new education system that is envious to the world, that a time will emerge when lack of electricity would be alien to our society, where our standard of living would be used as a bench-mark for other countries. The hope that a time will come when our DNA would be repellant to foreign aid and intervention, that every life and properties would be security assured, when citizens of this country would carry their passport with the highest level of self-esteem as Nigerians.

The hope that will inspire us to effect real change or die trying.

This is the hope that I desire you to have too, THE HOPE THAT TRIGGERS CHANGE!

Do you have hope?
