Ashanti Regional NDC Secretary Race: King Zuba Bows Out
16.08.2018 LISTEN

Former MCE for Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Mr.Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, a.k.a. King Zuba says he is no more interested in contesting the Ashanti Regional Secretary race of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) anymore.

Although the umbrella family is yet to open nominations for interested candidates to apply, King Zuba said his decision to withdraw from the race is to ensure party unity.

In a statement issued and signed by the outspoken former Obuasi MCE said he has done an extensive consultation and finds it prudent to withdraw from the race.

"In the supreme interest of the party, I, on this day, unreservedly and unconditionally wish to withdraw my candidature from the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretaryship contest. I have consulted widely, done some musings and have come to the conclusion that I should step aside from the contest and I hereby declare that I have withdrawn from the contest forthwith ", he announced.

"In the coming weeks, I will take time to painstakingly observe, monitor and to sample views relative to the competence, general acceptability and appeal of each of the two candidates left in the Secretaryship race. Based upon this, I will then decide who to throw my weight behind ", King Zuba said in his statement.

WITHDRAWAL FROM CONTEST
Today marks my 42nd birthday. I thank the almighty God, first and foremost, for His show of unmerited love and how far He has brought me. Glory be to His name! Let me also appreciate the support and care given to me by my immediate and extended family. You have stood and will stand by me through thick and thin. Special thanks go to the numerous loved ones who called or wrote to wish me well. The outpouring of birthday wishes was overwhelming and unimaginable. I'm hugely appreciative of the show of love and care shown me on this momentous day. Ordinarily, it should have been a day for merrymaking and partying but I chose to use this day, for good reasons, to make one of the most difficult but necessary decisions.

It would be recalled that when the NDC recently opened nominations for various regional executive positions, I put myself forward for contest. I went through all the processes in my bid to contest the position of Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC. For some time now, many have asked to know why I've been silent; not hitting the ground running with my campaign. At a point, my teeming supporters could not help but to get worried and disappointed as to why I was not on the move, as it were. Let me use this medium to commend and to thank them for the confidence reposed in me and for their loyalty.

In the supreme interest of the party, I, on this day, unreservedly and unconditionally wish to withdraw my candidature from the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretaryship contest. I have consulted widely, done some musings and have come to the conclusion that I should step aside from the contest and I hereby declare that I have withdrawn from the contest forthwith.

In the coming weeks, I will take time to painstakingly observe, monitor and to sample views relative to the competence, general acceptability and appeal of each of the two candidates left in the Secretaryship race. Based upon this, I will then decide who to throw my weight behind.

I am ready to serve my party in any capacity to the best of my ability. After all, one does not need to be an officer of this great party to serve it. The party reigns supreme.

To my teeming supporters, I urge you all to remain calm and to stay put. Any inconveniences that this decision might cause you are deeply regretted.

The prospects of the NDC are bright. Let us all work hard for power. Victory is possible together.

Signed:
(Former MCE for Obuasi)
