AUG 15, 2018 LISTEN

The Tamale Police Division in the Northern Region is calling for support from residents to aid them arrest the culprits who attacked the Tamale Teaching hospital some days ago.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Tamale command, DSP Yusif Tanko, they are not getting people to assist them in the ongoing investigations and that is making it difficult for them to arrest anybody.

“We haven’t made an arrest yet. Investigations are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act so that they will be put before court and the law will deal with them”, DSP Yusif Tanko said in an interview on Class FM.

It can be recalled that youth in Tamale attacked Tamale Teaching Hospital and dragged the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. David Kolbilla out. The group is said to be a coalition of pro-NPP youth including vigilante group Kandahar Boys.

The youth, who attacked the hospital, accused the CEO of adopting a habit of issuing threats to staff, engaging in procurement breaches and neglecting the purchase of key hospital consumables such as examination gloves, needles and syringes, among others.

DSP Yusif disclosed that they have spoken to the NPP to assist them in investigations. Some have decline and those who have accepted to help too are not forthcoming to assist them apprehend the culprits.

“We have spoken to the NPP party to assist us. Some have declined outright whereas others have promised to assist us but by their conduct we don’t see them doing so”, he said.

He also indicated that they have seen some videos of the perpetrators but because they are unable to identify them, it has been impossible to make any move to arrest them.

“We have seen videos of persons who invaded the chief executive’s office and walked him out of the office and locked the doors. He opines that people are saying the faces in the videos are known faces but what people do not know is that someone might know the face of the person but the police might not know

the face. Therefore they are urging anyone who knows any of the people in the video to contact them and assist in investigations.

He also observes that the Chief Executive officer who was attacked has not reported the case to the police station till date. Also, nobody from the hospital has reported the case to them even though they (the Police) have tried to get them to make a formal statement to help them in investigating the matter.

“Yesterday we sent officers to take statement from the Chief Executive Officer when RESEC led him to the office. They did not succeed in doing that. And nobody from the hospital have come to us saying that we know this people and we are ready to assist you to arrest them”.
