Government says it will mount a 24-hour surveillance on the Tamale Teaching Hospital to avert another takeover from vigilante groups.

Northern Region Minister Salifu Saeed after a meeting Tuesday said his outfit will in the coming days put up a police post within the premises of the hospital to provide security at all times.

His comments come a day after vigilante groups said to be affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party invaded the offices of the Chief Executive Officer of the TTH, walked him out of the office after which they locked the office.

The group is accusing David Zaawumya Kolbila of mismanagement, corruption and nepotism.

According to the group, the TTH CEO has established a number of companies which he is using to lobby for supplies from the hospital.

On Monday morning, the group in mufti locked the offices of the CEO and went away with the keys.

They are demanding the dismissal of David Zaawumya Kolbila, with a threat to return if their demands are not met.

The invasion was captured in a video which has since gone viral on social media.

Yesterday’s invasion was not the first.
Over 24 hours after the offices were shut, the police are yet to arrest the perpetrators.

ASP Mohammed Tanko who speaks for the police in the Northern Region said they have begun investigations into the matter.

He told Joy News they are now reviewing videos of the invasion and will contact the NPP and other residents for identification of the miscreants.

He said they have deployed men to the offices as well as the hospital itself to provide security.

The Regional Minister has since condemned the attack in no uncertain terms and assured of a lasting solution.

“On this not I want to reassure that the action that took place the government or party did not sanction this. We do not associate ourselves with that and we are going to ensure that the perpetrators of these acts will be dealt with.

“We are looking around to have a permanent structure to make sure we have constant police surveillance here,” Salifu Saeed said.
