Carlos Ahenkorah, Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, has sponsored a month's vacation school for Junior High School (JHS) students in Tema West, where he is the Member of Parliament (MP).

The vacation for every new academic year lasts about a month and two weeks, and during this period, most students wander about and engage in unhealthy activities.

Often, it is the affluent in the society who are able to pay teachers to tutor and keep their children refreshed academically during such times.

Making education a priority in his constituency to bridge the gap between the rich and less-privileged students in the public schools, therefore, the Deputy Minister, over the weekend, launched his third in the series 'Free Vacation Classes' at the Star Basic School, Community Five, Tema.

“Education is the key to success, therefore, it must not be compromised by any other thing,” Mr Ahenkorah said.

He advised parents and guardians, whose children are in the public JHS, to allow their wards to take advantage of the sponsorship to prepare them better when school resumes in September.

The Tema Metro Director for Education, Margaret Nsiah-Amoah, charged parents to take the education of their wards seriously, by contributing their quota in ensuring that their wards become responsible citizens.

She further advised the students to disengage themselves from social media, sexual immorality and telenovelas, as these would impede the progress of their studies.

She was thankful to Carlos Ahenkorah for funding the free vacation classes, and providing the students with exercise books and pens.
