Nkawie-Kuma (Ash), Oct.6, GNA - Five communities in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti have been cut off from the rest of the district and region as a result of the flooding of River Offin. The communities are Gyetua, Brosento, Apuayam, Abompe-Nigeria and Atwima-Wagadugu.

Mr. Amidu Yakubu, assemblyman for the area who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday said the situation was worse at Gyetua where a number of houses have also collapsed as a result of the continuous rainfall rendering a number of people homeless. He said cocoa beans, which were being dried, foodstuff and livestock had been destroyed.

Mr. Yakubu has therefore made a passionate appeal to the Atwima-Nwabiagya and Atwima Mponua district assemblies to come to the aid of the affected communities.

He also appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and NGOs for assistance. The situation was very evident at the Nkawie-Kuma market on Wednesday where the people could not bring foodstuffs to the market and therefore, foodstuffs were sold at cut-throat prices.
