Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public administration (GIMPA), Professor Steven Adei has called on the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to send retired corrupt Presidents who have exhausted their three years immunity period to Nsawam Prison.

“If you are a President and you chop chop, in three years when there is evidence you will go to Nsawam. And it is high time some Presidents went to Nsawam”, Professor Adei said.

The Former rector of GIMPA in an interview with Class FM urged Martin Amidu not to relent in his efforts in prosecuting persons found guilty of corrupt practices. He indicated that retired Presidents especially should be probed if they are found complicit of corruption and dealt with accordingly.

“What I am saying is that if there is evidence, thanks to Martin Amidu if he finds something against a retired President, he should just prepare the dossier and in three years when his immunity is over you catch them”, Professor Adei said.

He further stressed that to deal very well with corruption, it is a necessity that some former presidents will be incarcerate after their three years immunity come to an end.

He also stated that if any Member of Parliament or Minister of State engages in corrupt acts they should not be shielded with any form of privileges. Rather the special prosecutor should take the case and prosecute the person in line with our constitution. According to him,

“If an MP or a Minister is found to be corrupt we cannot resort to privilege”.

Professor Adei further expressed that the Special Prosecutor is not just for the common man but it is for everybody. So it must cut across Former Presidents and come down to MP’s and Ministers as well as anybody who engages in corrupt practices.
