AUG 11, 2018 LISTEN

A group calling itself, The Greater Nzema Development Association (TGNDA) of Western Region in NDC has called on a founding member of the NDC party, Mr. Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, known in political circles as ‘Goosie Tanoh’, to contest the flagbearership position of the party.

The NDC will go to polls on December 7 2018 to elect its Flagbearer for the 2020 elections. Former President John Mahama--who led the party to an abysmal loss in 2016--has been touted as favourite to win.

Ahead of the party’s polls, 94 NDC Members of Parliament out of 106 have reportedly endorsed John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in the 2020 elections although the former President hasn’t formally thrown his hat into the race.

According to the leader of the 94 MPs, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandapuye, John Mahama is the only candidate who can lead the party to victory in the next polls.

Mr. John Mahama who is likely to contest the flagbearer slot for the NDC will have to beat competition from former UPSA vice-chancellor Professor Joshua Alabi, Second deputy speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former NHIA boss Sylvester Mensah and his former Trade minister Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah and also Stephen Atubiga and Kweku Ricketts Hagan.

In a statement signed by group's Executives and copied to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent indicated "TGNDA is assiduously working and canvassing for support across other youth groups in the party to throw our weight behind the nomination of Mr Goosie Tanoh and we are earnestly appealing to him to listen to our call and come out to lead our party in the 2020 general elections. Even though there are other qualified and competent candidates contesting for the flagbearership race, Mr Goosie Tanoh stands tall among them".

The statement described Goosie Tanoh as a very approchiable, humble and sociable and also a grassroot person who can listen to the cries of the grassroot supporters of the party.

The statement however stated "In 1983, after a year lecturing Law at University of Ghana, UG, Mr Goosie Tanoh became Special Assistant to the PNDC and Head of State of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant John Jerry Rawlings. Later in the year, he was appointed as a member of the National Defence Committee, the Principal Political Organ of the PNDC and its standing committee".

"We all attest to the fact that for any leader to contest for such a sensitive Presidential race, he/she must be someone who is competent, unifier, fair and honest, experienced, knowledgeable, hardworking, trustworthy, humble, inspiring and courageous. All these attributes are not exceptional when it comes to Mr. Goosie Tanoh's personality and leadership", the statement emphasized.

The statement added, "Carefully considering the above contributions of Mr Goosie Tanoh to this nation and the world at large, we all attest that he is optimistically visionary, influential and the best gentleman to lead the NDC party as flagbearer for 2020 general elections in order to change the misfortunes created by this failed, corrupt and incompetent NPP government".

The group therefore, appealed to Goosie Tanoh to consider their calls and join the party's presidential race and also appealed to the members, sympathizers, loyalists and friends in the party to rally behind Goosie Tanoh.

The statement also emphasized that Goosie Tanoh is the only who would be surely win the 2020 general elections for the party and bring changes in the country positively.

The statement opined that, "Mr Tanoh still remains a very big asset to Ghana and can bring prosperity, development, restore hope and instill the spirit of justice, love and togetherness in the lives of good people of NDC and Ghana. It is our hope and prayer that Mr. Goosie Tanoh will listen to our humble call".
