What is this “Akyem Caucus” I Keep Hearing of within NPP?

Feature Article What is this Akyem Caucus I Keep Hearing of within NPP?
AUG 8, 2018 LISTEN

Ever since Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assumed the mantle of leadership of Ghana, we constantly keep hearing about the “Akyem Caucus” hijacking the presidency. What at all do people imply by the “Akyem Caucus”?

Is it all about those of the Akyem background holding the lucrative positions in His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s NPP-led government? If that is not the main reason, why then this daily mention of the “Akyem Caucus” at the seat of the presidency? From my understanding, they have formed an impenetrable wall around the President. They restrict access to the President. They feed both false and genuine information to the President, I should think, and the President allegedly listens to all that they say.

Since the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) throughout its metamorphoses of Progress Party (PP), Popular Front Party (PFP) until New Patriotic Party (NPP), I had never heard of “Northern Caucus”, “Ashanti Caucus” “Akan Caucus”, “Fanti Caucus”, “Ga caucus” “Ewe/Anlo Caucus” etc. but recently, the nation does hear of the “Akyem Caucus”. What is the matter, if I should ask? Is it because the President is of Akyem origin and has filled his government with people of Akyem descent who happen to be his close family members and cronies?

Be that as it may, the President is advised to note that a successful government is not run on family membership and cronyism but on membership of qualified persons drawn across the political spectrum.

Many a Ghanaian is of the speculation that the presidency is being run by three Akyem musketeer-strategists namely, Gabby Okyere Darko, Asante Bediatuo and Ofori Atta, hence the derogatory classification of the current NPP government as being run on the squeaky and screeching “Akyem Caucus” wheels.

That Caucus may have their agenda which may be selfish, so to speak. Whatever their agenda is, it may not be in the best interest of the nation but to satisfy their parochial interests. Do they understand how effective COMMUNICATION and RECOGNITION are as weapons to employ to bring about the success of an organization, marriage or government?

Selfishness, “pull him down”, envy and jealousy have always culminated in the downfall of many a prosperous enterprise or government. Subsequently, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must “shine” his eyes before his alleged “Akyem caucus” that are composed of his close-knit family members and extended maternal and paternal relatives bring his presidency to an abrupt end in 2020.

The government policies can be spread through effective communication. Therefore, NPP must have an effective communication team to go to the ground to explain the government policies to counteract the misinformation being disseminated by the NDC with intent to recapture power in Election 2020.

Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronya DC is indispensable. He has to be found and brought back on board. Upon all the good works DJ Sources of the Sources Radio UK did for NPP while they were in opposition to help them come to power, none of the NPP bigwigs has bothered to say thank you to him. This is short-sighted on the part of the NPP hierarchy.

The NPP can be full of the “book longs” but when it comes to devising and implementing strategies to hang on to power for long, they are as clueless as they love to erect an impregnable wall around them once they regain power, shunning away those who in immense ways helped them to get power. They do not hesitate to bite the hand that feeds them.

Ghana really needs His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to implement his good policies to fruition hence, I shall advise him to check the so-called “Akyem caucus” that are indirectly pulling his government down.

He had better push some away from him. He must put his foot down. Those of us on the ground and are without political ambition do here things so he had better listen to our admonition before he sooner begins to bite his finger in regret saying, had I known but which is always at last.

I dedicate this publication to all those that have maliciously been side-lined by the said “Akyem caucus”, especially Abronye DC, Adomako Baafi, and that man who met Alex Daddy at the Heathrow Airport on his one-day return trip to London in December 2016. How ungrateful is this guy by name Alex Daddy! I hope he will not give me the cause to take him to the cleaners one day for depicting acts of ungratefulness, selfishness and utter stupidity.

Finally, I dedicate this write-up to the memory of the late Nana Gyan Kwasi Mensah, alias Sahara, whose sudden death occurred in Kumawu in the early hours of Thursday, 2nd August 2018.
