The Ghana Academic and Research Network (GARNET) on Tuesday reconstituted its Board of Directors with a mandate to help stakeholders communicate and access data at a low rate.

The nine-member Board is chaired by Professor Clifford Nii Boye Tagoe, former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of University of Ghana (UG), Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, former Education Minister and VC of UG, Mr Alex Frimpong, the Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Employers' Association; and Mrs Mavis Sintim-Misa, CEO-Stinsad Consult.

Others are; Mrs Joycelyn Coleman, KPMG; Dr Peter Amoako Yirenkyi, representative of Vice Chancellors, Ghana; Mr Jacob Akunor, representative of Ministry of Education; Mr Issah Yahaya, Chief Director-Ministry of Communication and Prof Akwasi Asabre Ameyaw, VC of Methodist University.

Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communication, who inaugurated the Board and administered the oath of office and secrecy, urged them to create an environment for students and researchers to work efficiently.

Prof John Owusu Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, outlining the mandate of the Board, called on its members to play their various roles to make the body effective.

He said the Board is to build, share research works, and advance the activities of the Network.

He noted that the body exists to work together to advance the core of higher education, whilst looking for ways to building good infrastructure at a cheaper rate without which its mandate would not materialise.

By so doing, Prof Gyapong said, it would be supporting teaching and learning among both public and private universities in the country.

Prof Gyapong, who was the Past Chairman of the Board, said the GARNET is made up of ten public universities and eight private ones, as well as other research bodies.
