Fenerbahce player and Ghanaian international, Andre Ayew, could play his first Champions League game for the Turkish giant today as they take on Benfica in the Third Round Playoff at the Luz Stadium in Portugal.

The 28-year-old who made the switch from English Championship side, Swansea, to Turkey last month would be hoping to play a role in manager Phillip Cocu’s set up in his first competitive game.

The deputy Black Stars skipper picked a knock during his side’s 2-1 victory over Cagliari in a pre-season warm-up game that put his fitness in doubt.

However, the Swansea loanee is said to have recovered well ahead of the Yellow Canaries’ big game that would see them back to the European competition.

Victory would ensure the Turkish club book a ticket to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 10 years.

Fenerbahce’s best performance in Europe’s most prestigious competition came in the 2007-08 competition where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Chelsea after losing 2-1 in Istanbul and falling 0-2 during the return leg in London.

Since then, the club have struggled to make any good impression in the Champions League and with the drafting of the Ghanaian winger, it is expected that they would regain their form and perform better in the competition this season.
