The Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai Municipal in the Western Region under auspices of the Information Ministry has held a Town Hall meeting at Bibiani, the Municipal Capital to explain Government’s Policies and Programmes to the people. The Town Hall Meetings form part of measures by the Ministry of Information to sustain regular policy interaction with the general public.

The programme, the first of its kind in the Municipality, attracted people from all walks of life with recorded attendance of over seven hundred participants. The participants include Chiefs, Assembly Members, Town and Area Council Members, Heads of Department, the Clergy, Transport Unions, the Physically Challenged, Civil Society Groups, the Media among others.

The major highlights of the progromme were overview of the 2017 major Government policies and programmes in the area of Food and Agriculture, Land and Natural Resources ,Trade and Industry, Youth and Sports, Governance, just to mention a few. There were also district specific which featured major achievement and activities of the Municipality since 2017.

The MCE, Hon. Alfred Amoah flanked by the Municipal Coordinating Director, S.M. Abdul Rahman, the PM, Hon. Dr. Robert Aidoo and other departmental heads, gave an overview of 2017/2018 major activities of that Assembly and also took turns to answer question from the participants.

it was revealed in his presentation that Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Councils had received the queen light to establish an Aluminum Sulphate Factory in the Municipality under the One District, One Factory policy of government, using the Bauxite waste from the Awaso Mine.

The interaction section saw participants asking question which bordered on their livelihoods and other concerns. Some of the question, appeal and suggestion were as follows:

  1. What is government and for that matter, the Assembly is doing to tackle the infrastructure challenges faced by the various SHS due to the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
  2. A student appealed to government to complete a Community Day SHS started by the previous administration at sefwi Chirano.
  3. Another student wanted to know plans that government has for those in private SHS who are not benefiting from the free SHS policy.
  4. The mentally challenged wanted government to establish a special school in the Municipality to take care of their needs.
  5. A cross section of the chiefs complained about the deplorable roads in their areas and therefore appealed to government to fix those roads.
  6. One participant was also not happy about the frequent upwards adjustment of fuel prices at the pump and therefore, asked government to urgently do something about it.

The above and many others concerns raised by the participants, were subsequently responded by the MCE, the MCD, the PM and other departmental heads present.

Interacting with the media after the programme, the MCE expressed delight about the success of the meeting and the fact it created a huge platform for sensitization of the people who hitherto were oblivious about the policy direction of government.

He was in fact, overwhelmed about the huge number that turned up for the meeting and therefore expressed his gratitude to all and sundry. The MCE hinted that the programme would be replicated in other communities in the Municipality to sustain regular interaction with the citizenly.
