CHRAJ Takes On Yendi Hospital Over Fate Of 91 Employees

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has sought a court injunction to stop the Yendi hospital from going ahead with the recruitment of new staff to replace 91 employees whose contracts were terminated.

The sacked members of staff were allegedly dismissed through a circular prompting them to seek help from CHRAJ. They were demanding two months of unpaid salaries.

Northern Regional Director of the CHRAJ Steven Azantilo in an interview with Joy News said the only way the commission could stop the hospital from going ahead with the recruitment was to run to court seek a court injunction.

He said CHRAJ had just begun its, investigation when they got information that the hospital had begun recruitment to replace the sacked staff.

The CHRAJ Regional boss added that his outfit is ready to go into negotiations with the hospital if it rescinds its decision but added that CHRAJ will not have an option to pursue it in court if the hospital goes ahead.

Mr. Azantilo said the sacked staffs have families to take care of, adding that, it was unfortunate that the management of the hospital denied them their salaries.

Mr. Azantilo said with the matter is in court CHRAJ will also have to suspend its investigation pending what the court would say.

He said with the complainants been permanent workers of the hospital, due process should have been taken before terminating their appointments.
