The National Communications Authority (NCA) has held the 3rd edition of ECOWAS WCA to address management leapfrog development of communication in Africa sub-regions.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the minister of communication, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, she said, the world has become a global community wherein big- data-driven autonomy is the emerging reality, which indicates that there is a need to upscale the utility of our wireless resources to help ensure the digital divide is urgently closed, and above all to ensure that no one is left behind in this global transition to a fully fledged information and knowledge society.

"As regulators, there is the need for you to be constantly proactive in the industry, in that it is with such collaborative meetings, that you will be able to identify areas within the sector, where focus will need to be intensified, and there is the important area of operation that will need much attention being the management of our region's frequency resources ", she stated.

She further stated that radio frequency being the bedrock on which all communication rides should be handled prudently in order to maximise its benefit to the citizenry.

According to the director general of the national communication authority, Mr. Joe Anokye, " the radio frequency spectrum and orbital resources cannot be overemphasised with each passing day, these resources expand the impact and effect of connection within the global community through the virtual space as well as providing platforms for continuously emerging digital economies.

"It is said that no natural resource is likely to be more critical to human progress in the 21st century than radio spectrum", he said.

Mr. Anokye noted that, the preparatory meeting will, therefore, seek to address the radio spectrum needs through the attainment of a common position for the ECOWAS sub-region, and outcomes of this meeting will play a contributory role in deliberation at the upcoming 3rd Africa Telecommunication Union (ATU) meeting scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt on 17th -21st September 2019.

There will be opportunities for other industry stakeholders to contribute to making these discussions more intense with the incorporation of their experiences with end users, as this will serve greatly to inform the meeting on the future expectations.

Meanwhile, the NCA has outdoored several new facilities such as DTT Audit testing laboratory and the broadcasting monitoring centre aimed at enhancing the regulatory work and during the course of this meeting.
