Healthy Behind Bars (HBB) is a charity organization comprising health professionals (physicians, nurses, laboratory scientists, public health officers and dieticians) with the mission of providing free curative and preventive healthcare to inmates of various prisons and correctional centers across the country.
As practitioners, HBB recognizes the essence of a quality health system that can be benefitted by all and sundry, irrespective of their status or circumstances.
HBB's prison medical outreach project comes off on Saturday, 11th August, 2018 at the Sekondi Prisons with a target of about 1200 inmates.
Patrick Fynn, coordinator of HBB, explained that the aim of the outreach was to identify inmates with chronic and acute conditions as well as those at risk from potentially deadly diseases and provide them with the needed care.
He added that it was also to sensitize inmates on various personal and public health conditions while they stocked infirmaries at the prisons with basic lifesaving medical essentials.
The prison health advocacy group is having this outreach under the permission of Ghana Prisons Service.
