Accra, Sept. 29, GNA - The Accra Regional Police Command on Thursday advised the public to be careful about new tricks of criminals in attacking drivers and passengers on highways. A release signed by ASP Jordan Quaye of the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Headquarters said the technique involved one or two criminals, who might be a man or a woman, lying by the side of the road and pretending to be injured.

It said females feigned pregnancy while others pretended to be victims of motor accidents and the moment drivers pulled over to take a good look, other criminals rushed with guns from the bush to seize their vehicles, money and valuables.

The release urged the travelling public to contact the nearest police barrier or police post or police station or call 191 and report immediately if they encountered any criminal attack. It, however, cautioned that it was not in any way inferring that responsibility and kindness towards the suffering should be shirked since there were people who might be in genuine need of help. "Drivers as well as the travelling public should be circumspect and careful in offering a helping hand on our roads," the release said.
