28.07.2018 LISTEN

A staff of the Ghana Education Service Agona West Municipal Directorate at the weekend undertook a five-hour cleanup exercise around the environs of the office to maintain a healthy environment.

The staff de-stilted choked gutters, weeded around the environs of the office and cleaned the louvres and walls of the Education Office.

The exercise is in support of the National Sanitation Day exercise aimed at maintaining a healthy environment.

Ms Elizabeth Helen Essel, Agona West Municipal Director of Education, said the clean-up exercise was aimed at inculcating in the staff the idea of a regular contribution towards good environmental conditions at their place of work.

She said a clean community translates to a healthy people and a healthy nation and called on stakeholders to take part in community-related exercises.

She said it is important that the public see it as a civic responsibility and avoid throwing waste and rubbish into drains.

She called for an attitudinal change in the ways that waste was disposed of otherwise the campaign would be defeated.

The Agona West Municipal Director of Education urged staff to be agents of change and active supporters of good sanitation practices.
