Health workers urged to extend activities to rural areas

Pramso (Ash), Sept 29, GNA - Health workers have been urged to extend their activities to the poor and vulnerable in rural communities to enable them access quality health care.

Very Reverend Justice Gabriel Anokye, Auxiliary Catholic Bishop of Kumasi, who made the call said many people were dying from some diseases due to lack of medical facilities within their communities. Bishop Anokye was speaking at Saint Michael's Day celebration at the Saint Michael's Catholic Hospital at Pramso in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district on Thursday.

The day is marked by Catholics to remember Saint Michael, one of the Ark angels believed to be the lead guard of God. The celebration also marked the unveiling of a statue of Saint Michael at the Hospital.

It was constructed by Nana Bowak, Headmaster of Jachie-Pramso Secondary School and his family at five million cedis.

Bishop Anokye said the cardinal activity in Christ's ministry on earth was healing and appealed to staff of the hospital to continue the healing ministry of Christ to manifest His work to mankind. He commended the Management and Staff of the hospital for their selfless and dedicated service to the people.

Dr Proper Gbetor, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said attendance at the hospital's Out-Patient Department (OPD) between January and August this year, was about 40,000 patients. He said plans were far advanced to construct a modern eye clinic and mortuary for the hospital and appealed to individuals and organizations to assist the hospital to complete them on time. Nana Owusu Bempah, Pramsohene, thanked staff of the hospital for their dedication to duty and advised them to continue to work hard to provide better health care delivery. 29 Sept.05
