Boycotting Midlads Will Create Unemployment – AGSD-GH
27.07.2018 LISTEN

The Association of Graduates in Skills Development-Ghana (AGSD-GH) formerly known as the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG), has been monitoring with keen interest the story of the unprofessional conduct of the Police Officer at Midlands Savings and Loans and the staff of the Bank. It is very regrettable the manner in which the bad police officer heavily beat the nursing mother whiles the bank officers stood aloof.

We commend the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Ghana Police Service for taking bold initiatives to interdict and prosecute the police officer. We believe that this will go a long way to help check the many excesses that citizens have been suffering from the hands of police officers without any evidence.

We are however worried that the public has taken to push a campaign for people to withdraw their monies from Midlands Savings and Loans. Whiles we condemn the actions of the staff and demand that the management of the Bank take steps to punish its staff on duty in that branch on that day, we do not think a boycott of the said bank will do any good to the unemployment situation in the country.

The dangerous campaign that is calling on people to withdraw their cash from Midlands can only lead to another collapse of a financial institution that employs over 700 Ghanaians. This will add up to the already existing unemployed youth and make the situation worse.

We therefore wish to call on Ghanaians to exercise patience but continue to demand for better customer service standards from all banks and institutions in this country.
