Govt will make judicious use of debt cancellation - DCE

Kwasi Addae(Afram Plains), Sept. 29, GNA - Mr Solomon Yaw Fordjour, Afram Plains District Chief Executive, has pledged the Government's commitment to make judicious use of the four billion dollars debt cancellation and the 290 million dollars Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) as well as other donor assistance to enhance the country's socio-economic development.

He said such foreign assistance were due to the Government's prudent economic policies and good governance therefore, Ghanaians should support the Government to move the nation forward.

Mr Fordjour made the pledge when addressing the chiefs and people of Kwasi Addae in the Afram Plains District as part of his familialization tour of communities in the district. He said the Government would construct 650 kilometers of feeder roads in the district with funds from the MCA to facilitate the movement of goods and services.

Mr Fordjour advised parents to take advantage of the Capitation grant and send their children to school to reduce the high illiteracy rate among children in the district. Nana Owoahene Acheampong, Chief of Kwasi Addae, appealed to the District Assembly to construct a new six-classroom block and nursery to replace an old dilapidated block currently serving six communities in the area.

He appealed for the rehabilitation of feeder roads, provision of tractor services and the supply of improve seeds and insecticide to increase agricultural production. Other communities toured by Mr Fordjour were, Dedeso, Mmradan, Dartekrom, Adomase and Tiase. The people appealed for the posting of more teachers to basic schools, construction of classroom blocks, teachers bungalows, rehabilitation of feeder roads and financial assistance from the Poverty Alleviation Fund for people in the area. 29 Sept.05
