AESDA builds schools in six communities

Winneba, Sept 28, GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly has built classrooms costing more than 2.4 billion cedis in six communities and trained 179 teachers as part of its efforts to promote education in the district.

They schools include a block of three classrooms, office and store at Fianko, a block of three classrooms, office and store at Topiase, a block of six classrooms, office and store at Awutu Bawjiase. The rest are block of three classrooms, office and store at Mfafo, a block of six classrooms, office, KVIP and urinal at Ayensuako and a block of six classrooms at Kofi Ansah.

Mr Solomon Kwashie Abam-Quaye, the District Chief Executive, said this when inaugurating a non-government organisation, Challenging Heights, at Sankore near Winneba.

Mr Abam-Quaye said the assembly also provided 100 dual desks to some schools and offered scholarship to 179 teacher trainees who have completed their courses while 62 are in their final year. "We must not relent in our efforts at mobilizing all available human and material resources to ensure that education is given the needed push in the district".

He appealed to the people to join hands in the National Health Insurance Scheme so as to receive free medical care when they attend the hospitals.

Mr James Kofi Annan, the Executive Director of the NGO, said it would work to promote education for children in the district. Mr Annan awarded scholarship costing 17 million cedis to 29 brilliant but needy children in Sankore.

Each pupil will get between 200,000 cedis and one million cedis for the purchase of uniforms and other learning materials from the basic to senior secondary and vocational schools.
