Farmer Jailed 48 Months For Stealing Guns

The Enchi District Magistrate court has sentenced a 32-year-old farmer to 48 months in imprisonment in hard labour for stealing four single barrel guns worth GH¢11,000.00.

Peter Konadu had pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

Konadu who is popularly known as Kofi Kinata was however cautioned and discharged on count one.

Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court, presided over by Mr Eric Baah Boateng that the complainant Kwadwo Ackah, a blacksmith resides at Dekyemso, a suburb of Dadieso in the Suaman District.

He said on May 2018, the complainant received four single barrel guns from individuals for servicing he then kept them in his workshop.

The Prosecution said on June 30 while the complainant was asleep in the night Konadu sneaked into his shop and made away with the guns.

He said an informant who saw Konadu entering the shop informed the complainant who together with a search party scout round looking for the convict but could not find him.

Detective Agyare said on July 2 a formal report was made to the police by the complainant.

He said the next day the convict was seen at the Jubilee school behind the Dadieso cemetery armed with a single barrel gun and was arrested and dragged to the police station with the gun.

He said the police then escorted the convict to his house at Blackman, a suburb of Dadieso and retrieved one single barrel gun under his bed.

On July 3, Detective Agyare said two out of the four stolen guns were also found near the complainant's workshop.

The court has confiscated all the guns and has ordered the complainant to produce the documents covering them before he can take custody of them.
