Accra, Sept 21, GNA - About 60 residents of the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District in the Central Region have started benefiting from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mr Eric Owusu Appiah, Scheme Manager of Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, said on Wednesday. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, he said out of the 11,588 members registered 2,116 had made full payment and 58 had fully benefited as at September 1.

Mr Owusu Appiah said some district hospitals had embarked on educating the people to enable them to take the scheme seriously. "Eight patients on admission at the various hospitals have benefited from medication on fibroid at a cost of about 2.5 million each and also for the treatment of hernia which cost about 900,000 cedis," he said.

He said this was only the beginning with the anticipation that more people from Asikuma would also benefit from the scheme. Mr Owusu Appiah appealed to all citizens to begin registering and endeavour to make full payment to enable them to enjoy from the scheme as well as promote national development.
