Technical Education Key Recipe For Development - Minister

The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has reechoed government's resolve to provide the needed support for the various Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to improve the skills development sector in the country because it recognises the Critical role TVET plays in the areas of industrialization, agriculture and economic transformation.

The minister disclosed that government through the ministry of education is embarking on structural reforms including setting up TVET council and dedicating a whole division of the education service to technical and vocational education which would have its own Director general.

Delivering a speech at the 13th congregation of Kumasi Technical University held at the school's great Hall , Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh noted that government as part of its commitment to revitalize the skills development sector has dedicated one deputy minister entirely to technical and vocational education.

For his part, the Interim vice Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Professor Asiamah Yeboah, stressed that KsTU has collaborated with the Canadian government through "Youth Challenge International" towards equipping the students and other Ghanaian youth with business operating ideas.

Professor Asiamah however appealed to the government to review the working conditions of the staff of Technical Universities.

He advised the graduands to go out there and work with dedication and honesty to justify the huge investment made towards their training.

Delivering a speech on behalf the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu ll the Apagyahene Nana Oheneba Owusu Afriyie IV advised the teaching and administrative staff of Technical Universities in the country to work with their best ability to merit the upgrade of polytechnics to technical universities.

He assured KsTU of his constant support and called on chiefs in the Ashanti kingdom to make lands available to the institution anytime they needed it to enable them expand their infrastructure to train more youth in the country.
