Mrs Beatrice Andam, President of the Methodist Ministers' Spouses Association, Kumasi Diocese, has called for increased budgetary allocation to upgrade facilities in vocational training institutes in the country.

This, she said, would help put those institutes in good shape to respond effectively to the contemporary training needs of women to boost their job opportunities after the completion of their courses.

'Our women training institutes must be constantly upgraded with the state-of-the-art facilities - providing them with modern industrial machines and workshops, Information Communication and Technology (ICT) units, as well as well-resourced laboratories', she said.

Mrs Andam was speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony during which a variety of food items were donated to the Methodist Women's Training Centre at Kwadaso near Kumasi.

The gesture forms part of its 40 years anniversary celebration, which is being held under the theme: 'Go and Make Disciples of All Nations: Sustaining Our Gains through Effective Stewardship - the Role of Ministers' Spouses'.

The items included five bags of rice, eight cartons of milk, two boxes of key soap, two gallons of oil, three boxes of mackerel, one bag of sugar and washing detergents.

The association also donated six packets of T-Roll, two boxes of Quaker Oats, fifteen crates of eggs, bags of gari and beans, as well as loaves of bread.

Mrs Andam lauded authorities of the Centre for introducing innovative programmes such as massaging and spa as one of the courses of study to widen students' opportunities for employment.

Mrs Aretha Addai, Director of the Centre, expressed gratitude to the Association and promised that they would utilize the items for their intended purposes.
