Tema, July 3, GNA - The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has feted over 300 senior citizens in the Metropolis in commemoration of Ghana's 58th Republic Day celebration.

July one, which is observed as the country's Republic Day and Senior Citizens Day, is used by government and district assemblies to honour the aged in society for their numerous contributions towards Ghana's independence and republican status as well as for the development of the country over the years.

They were treated to drinks, food and highlife music in addition to receiving souvenirs and parcels from companies in the Metropolis who collaborated with the Assembly for the celebration.

The program was graced by Nii Adjei Kraku II, Paramount Chief of Tema, Mr Kofi Brako, and Member of Parliament for Tema Central.

Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, commended them for their contributions, hard work, dedication and commitment to the Ghana.

Mr Anang-La appealed to senior citizens to allow the Assembly and the youth to approach them and tap into their wealth of experience to enable them achieve their goals of making Tema a better place.

He thanked organizations both public and private who were involve in supporting the aged in society and called on others to emulate.

Mr Brako urged the youth not to neglect the aged but rather take good care of them to ensure they lived long healthy lives to share their knowledge and experience on how to properly shape their lives.
