Skyfox Limited, investors in agriculture, has launched a three year integrated aquaculture and crop production programme as part of efforts to create jobs for the people in various communities.

The project, in partnership with the Afram Plains Development Organization (APDO), a non- governmental organization, and with support from USAID would be targeting over 1,000 farmers in the Krachi East Municipality.

Mr Patrick Apoya, the Chief Executive Officer of Skyfox Limited, said the project is their fifth establishment and would continue to expand to reach more farmers to help reduce poverty in the country.

The project is also to empower women and the youth in agriculture and it is in line with government's 'One District, One Factory', 'Planting for Food and Jobs and the 'Youth in Agriculture' policies.

He said the production systems of the country are intensive and this requires high quality water in producing fish, hence the decision to choose the municipality for the programme.

Mr Apoya said his company would provide the infrastructure for the production of fish to groups of farmers for lease.

He said the 20 percent profit to be paid to his organization was to cover the lease fee for the infrastructure and operational support.

Mr Apoya said the project has already commenced in the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South and Krachi Ntumuru and now at Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality to support low income earners.

Mr Apoya said his organization has plans of reaching out to over 1.2 million low income earners across West Africa including Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Conakry and Liberia and 120,000 people in Ghana.

He said the project would also introduce intensive management strategy that would flush out waste water from the fish ponds and tap the waste water to be used for irrigation on crop fields.

Mr Patrick Jilimah, the Municipal Chief Executive, commended the Afram Plains Development Organization (APDO) for introducing the municipality to Skyfox and pledged to assist the programme by extending electricity to the project site and constructing an eight kilometer road leading to the site.

Meanwhile, Nana Kwaku Chikpa, the Chief of Wankaway and the Gyaasehene of Chunke Traditional Area, has given out 660 acres of land to support the programme.
