The African Glorious Chorale (AGC), a Non-Denominational Choir group has honoured Madam Grace Freda Nartey, the Proprietress of the Cosmos School for impacting positively on the community and in diverse fields of endeavour.

At a musical concert dubbed: 'Celebrating Our Heroes two', citations were presented by AGC, Cosmos Old Students 95, 98 and Abeka Motorway Old Students, to Madam Nartey now 88 years of age for her overwhelming and unwavering sacrifices, impartation and commitments to God, community and country.

The event held at the Mount Sinai Methodist Church Abeka Lapaz, Accra was graced by distinguished personalities from the diplomatic community, Members of Parliament, Representatives from the office of the President and renowned Ghanaian composer, Newlove Annan.

The Choir uplifted the souls of the guests with melodious Christian hymns, African choral compositions by Newlove Annan and other composers, Western Classical Anthems by G. F. Handel and L. V. Beethoven and also a medley of highlife tunes, which elicited ecstatic applause and cheers after every performance.

The 'Celebrating Our Heroes Concert' aims at celebrating individuals for their invaluable contributions to the growth of their communities, church and the development of the nation.

Mr Prince Oduro Yeboah, the Administrator of African Glorious Chorale, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said 'Celebrating Our Heroes' project was to acknowledge the living heroes for their meticulous services while they are alive, instead of waiting to honour them posthumously.

He said it was more rewarding to recognise and celebrate excellence in one's lifetime.

'People who distinguish themselves deserve to be appreciated by society. The criterion is always how well or how professional you were in the discharge of your responsibilities,' he said.

Madam Nartey, the Proprietress of Cosmos School, Abeka Lapaz, New Market Accra and founder of Mount Sinai Methodist Church, Abeka Lapaz was born on June 1930 in the Eastern Region.

Almost four decades ago her passion for God and country led her to establish Cosmos Basic School. As a selfless visionary with goodwill, she was non-profit oriented to the core and gave opportunities to the less fortunate to enable them afford the school fees.

She literally mobilised under privileged children and street children and groomed them into leaders in various fields of health, business, security, administration and so on.

She contributed to the establishment of St. Anthony Ann's Preparatory School and most importantly imparted the lives of students while teaching Latin at a Private Senior High School.

Her passion for God was evident as she formed the Mount Sinai Methodist Church in 1987 with support from her family as well as the school children who formed the base of the church choir

With deep care for people and God's righteous standards of love she provided support financially, emotionally and spiritually to the church members.

She was also instrumental in planting churches and missions in rural areas notably the Wesley Evangelical Mission in the Eastern Region and also funded those churches.

Mr Michael Nartey who received the citation on behalf her mother, Madam Nartey expressed gratitude for the gesture and honour.

The programme was chaired by Chief Superintendent Dr Frank Hukporti, Director of Bands for the Ghana Police Service and double as the Director of Music at the Police Central Band Accra
