Takoradi, July 3, GNA - Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Board Chairman of the Tebah Educational Initiative (TEI) has called on the youth to defy all odds in the pursuit of quality education and strive for excellence to realize their God given abilities.

'We believe that education is an immense potential to change and save lives. We need to encourage pupils and students to become exceptional in society by promoting individual growth through academic achievement'.

The Board Chairman was speaking at the fifth anniversary of the TEI and fundraising gala in Takoradi in the Western Region.

He said TEI also believe in boosting the confidence of pupils and students through constant and consistent engagement with accomplished personalities…''we must narrow the gap between the students' world and professional world, that's why we need your total support, financial as well as operational'.

Mr. Ameyibor said education had an immense potential to change lives and that stakeholders must endeavour to create the needed platforms to harness pupils and students' skills and talents whilst working on challenges such as peer pressure, bullying, and teenage pregnancy, juvenile history and self-esteem problems.

The TEI is to among other things create an innovative student's empowerment programme to enhance the interface for stakeholders to understand their critical role towards offering a holistic education.

Nana Oye Lithur, a former Minister of Gender Women and Children Affairs and an astute lawyer mentioned how education had totally transformed her personal life.

"Although education during my time was not a common thing for the girl-child, my mother defied all odds and exposed me to quality education and the library which opened the world to me to see bigger and brighter opportunities'.

She said the introduction of summer camps, libraries, mentorship and other such programmes by TEI was therefore in line to improve the quality of education of the Ghanaian child.

Ms. Viola Tebah, founder of TEI said the initiative came about as a result of her personal challenges with education in her formative years…'I am therefore committed to helping as many as the TEI can to impact positive education for social transformation'.

The TEI according to her would continue to focus on students' self-esteem, efficacy, and control… 'We also discuss challenges faced at the junior and senior high school level whilst advising students to set goals and make healthy decisions with the ultimate goal of placing them in leadership positions'.

Ms Tebah said sacrifices made in the teenage years would stimulate greater benefits and excellence in old age and, 'That is our goal, to nurture the youth on the path of excellence and leadership'.
