Editorial: Re-Open Ya-Na's Case Too

Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has been reported to have pledged that the death of Archibald Kabutey Caesar, who died in a motor, together with his wife and son, before his nomination as the District Chief Executive for Dangbe East could be confirmed, would be re-opened for investigations.

According to a Ghana News Agency report, the Vice President pledged to the bereaved family that 'government would act on their request' for a fresh investigation to be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of their beloved family members.

We are glad that no less a person than the Vice President of the republic has pledged that the government would act on the request of the bereaved family such that a fresh investigation would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased persons.

We would like to appeal to the Vice President that while they are it, they should re-open investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Overlord of the Dagbon state, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani, and some forty other persons in Yendi over three years ago.

We do sincerely believe that the Vice President, himself a citizen of Dagbon, is not unaware of the fact that very many people, including members of the late Ya-Na's family, have called for fresh investigations to be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of their killed beloved ones; principally due to the fact that even though the Ya-Na and his folks were killed on broad daylight after three days of sustained gunfire, not a single person has, to date, been held responsible for that heinous crime.

Now that the government has started reopening investigations into cases, we would like to remind the Vice President that he owes it as a duty, not only to his kinsmen in Dagbon, but to the whole country, to see to it that the case of the Ya-Na is reopened for fresh investigations to be conducted into the matter so that the perpetrators and their sponsors could be arrested and brought to justice.

Mr. Vice President, we plead with you, don't let the people of Dagbon, and the rest of Ghana, down.
