DCE appeals to people of Adaklu to cease boycotting assembly

Kpetoe, Sept 20, GNA - Mr Mawuli Kwame Dabi, the District Chief Executive for Adaklu-Anyigbe, has appealed to the people of Adaklu to cease their boycott of the new district because of differences over the choice of Kpetoe as the capital.

He said Adaklu's continued boycott of the assembly would amount to denying themselves their fair share of development, which is the reason for the creation of the new district and not where the capital is located.

Mr Dabi made the appeal on Monday when a delegation from Adaklu-Kodzobi, a farming community in the new district led by its Assemblyman Mr Achimore Addo, went to Kpetoe to congratulate him on his appointment and to invite him to their "Bliza" (corn festival) slated for October 8.

Mr Dabi, a citizen of Adaklu, appealed to opinion leaders in Adaklu to use their influence in a manner that would help accelerate the development of the area rather than draw back its progress.

He said he was committed to reversing the poor infrastructure in Adaklu but that would require a unity of purpose and support from the chiefs and people of the area.

Mr Dabi thanked the delegation for initiating "a very constructive and mature approach" to solving the problems of Adaklu and pledged to run an open government.

Togbe Samuel Deh, Regent of Adaklu-Kodzobi, praised Mr Dabi for his courage in accepting his appointment in the heat of the controversy and pledged support from the people of Kodzobi.

He appealed to all well-meaning people of Adaklu to bury their "hatchet and come on board for the development of the new district.''

The choice of Kpetoe by Legislative Instrument (LI 1807) as the capital of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District last year sparked off protests by the people of Adaklu who referred to a LI 1740 as designating Adaklu-Waya as the capital of the new district.
