Adenta-based West Africa Senior High School (WASS) booked their spot in the semifinals of the ongoing National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) after their victory over Tamale SHS and Kumasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

Right from the beginning of Saturday morning’s quarterfinals contest, WASS took control getting most of their questions correct while Kumasi SHTS and their northern region counterpart lagged behind.

Many had bet their money on Tamale SHS giving WASS a run for their money, but at the end of the first round, WASS led the competition with 25 points with Tamale SHS following with 19 points, and Kumasi SHTS trailing by 16 points.

The Speed Race didn’t do the trick for Tamale SHS as their fierce competitors WASS got ahead of them and answered their questions correctly.

The third round which required the contestants to solve a questioned 'The Problem of the Day' got supporters of Tamale SHS hopeful as they scored a good mark.

The race was back on as the two-time consecutive quarterfinalists scored six points from a possible 10 points while WASS and Kumasi SHTS picked only three points.

WASS did not falter as they used the 'True or false' round to solidify their fortunes. In that round, both WASS and Tamale SHS added 13 points to their tally leaving Kumasi SHTS to stagger with a total of 23 points going into the final round.

With just seven points difference between them, Tamale SHS had hopes of toppling WASS in the same fashion as they did to other opponents last year and in the 1/8 contest this year, but it was not to be.

WASS upped their game by picking three points out of four when it came to the 'Riddles' round to pull ahead nine more points as they doused the hopeful flames of Tamale SHS.

Victors West Africa SHS hit the ceiling with 59 points, with Tamale SHS amassing an impressive 43 points and Kumasi SHTS finished with 23 points.
