Southern Command Inter-Unit Drill Competition Opens

The Southern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, has commenced a two-day Inter-Unit Drill Competition for Units under its Command to sharpen troops' foot and rifle drills.

It will also provide them with the basis for team work and general military discipline.

Brigadier General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, General Officer Commanding of the Southern Command, said the aim of the drill and competition was to shape the cadets and recruits into Officers and Men of the Ghana Armed Forces.

'They imbibe in them the spirit of comradeship and the determination to succeed and earn one's freedom. Therefore, Southern Command has gone to the basic to revive one the time-tested tenets of our profession,' Brigadier Oppong-Peprah said.

He appreciated officers representing the various units for their sacrifices and relentless efforts in projecting 'the unyielding spirits' of their respective units and wished them well in the competition.

The two-day competition, which began on Wednesday, June 27, will end on Thursday, June 28 at the RECCE Regiment, Gondar Barracks.

The units, which are battling for supremacy in the competition are; 1st Battalion of Infantry, 2nd Battalion of Infantry, 5th Battalion of Infantry, and 64 Infantry Regiment.

The others are Armed Recce Regiment, 66 Artillery Regiment, 48 Engineer Regiment and Southern Command Camp.
