Mr Kwasi Mensa Duku, the new Ashanti Regional commander of Police, has called on the public to deal with only police commanders when giving credible leads for the arrest of miscreants, to avoid the disclosures of their identities.

He said effective policing thrived on intelligence gathering, sadly some bad nuts in the lower ranks who have become friends with criminals leaked information about their arrests and this very unprofessional attitudes undermined efforts at fighting crime, whiles also exposing 'the whistle blowers' to danger.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) who has just assumed command of the Region, unveiling his vision to boost security and safety, in a maiden media encounter in Kumasi on Wednesday, vowed to protect information volunteers adding that his work to push the security agenda forward, would thrive on stakeholder engagements.

Rolling out some of his programs, Mr Duku pledged to tackle driver indiscipline which is the main cause of vehicular congestion in the various towns to enable smooth traffic management.

Intensified mobile and static police patrols, revamping of Neighourhood Watch Committees and the opening of more police stations in developing areas whiles also liaising with traditional leaders to deal with chieftaincy issues, are his other plans to maintain law and order in the Region.

Mr Duku identified the media as an effective partner in his work and promised to work in closer collaboration.

He also urged the media not to hesitate to verify information from the police before publicising it adding 'please criticize us but constructively, occasionally there may be some infractions as humans, and we may disagree - this does not mean we are enemies'.
