20.06.2018 LISTEN

A onetime Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly and a businessman has been elected as the Presiding Member for the Assembly.

At the end of the second round of the keenly contested elections, Hon. Lawrence Nana Bondah secured 23 out of the 25 YES votes to emerge the winner after the other two contestants Mr. Anthony Coffie and James Adabor stepped down.

After the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commissioner, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi Hon. Elijah Adansi Bonah congratulated the Assembly members for putting their differences aside to unanimously vote for one of the candidates. He appealed to them to fully support Hon. Bondah in his 2 year tenure as a Presiding Member.

Hon. Adansi Bonah again revealed that a new assessment module called DPAT (District Assembly Performance Assessment Tool) has been employed by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to replace the FOAT assessment tool which would rate the performance of all District Assemblies from now. This, he said, means that, the Assembly would need all hands on deck approach to pass the DPAT test.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Lawrence Bondah called for unity among the Assembly Members to tackle the developmental agenda of the Assembly. He said, once elections are over, there is the need for all members to bury their differences and work hard to ensure that the people of Obuasi benefit from the policies and programmes of the Assembly.
