Frederick Opare-Ansah, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region has expressed worry over the number of road accidents that has occurred on the Suhum stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway recently.

Opare-Ansah in an interactions with the Zongo Communities leaders that, when he received the news that a VIP bus has knocked down, Samspon Amoako Atta - Narh, a teacher who was knocked down by a VIP bus on his motorbike dying instantly around Suhum Okroase among others accidents recently on the Accra to Kumasi Highway.

Opare-Ansah noted that, the cost of these accidents are becoming too much since lives are lost anytime they occur which gives him sleepless nights.

He explained that, he has taken steps to ensure that the current situation on the issues of the accidents occurring around the Suhum area is improved.

"I have spoken to the Minister of Roads and Highways today. He has indicated that payment is being effected after cabinet approval was sought for the completion of the dualisation of the road." Opare-Ansah stated.

He said the contractor is therefore expected to move to site shortly that's if he hasn't already done so after initial discussions with the Minister and the assurances he was given.

"We also discussed the possibility of putting rumble strips around the area to regulate vehicular speed."- He added

He noted that, the Minister of Roads who has promised to send a technical team to visit the area soon for the conduct of necessary assessments/studies to curb the recent happenings on the road.

The MP also commended the the Islamic leaders in the municipality for taking a good initiative to ensure that his initial donation of 100 bags of cement for the fencing of their ceremonial grounds did not go to waste.

He reiterated how similar gestures to groups within the municipality has been made to go waste.

He promised the Islamic community in the constituency his commitment to see to the completion of the project.

He assured them of adequate number of bags of cement, Iron rods, bricks for fencing and the flooring of their place of worship.

He asked the Islamic community to pray for President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and the NPP government to ward off any evil machinations.

Opare-Ansah took the opportunity to advice drivers and pedestrians to take extra caution to reduce accidents while steps are being taken to reduce the r road.

He advised that motorists and pedestrians observe all traffic rules.
