The Rajasthan Association Ghana (RAG) has stock the Blood Bank of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) with 45 pints of blood.

The Blood Camp Donation, which is the second by the Association, was organised as part of activities marking the 478th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, a Hindu Rajput King of Mewar in Rajasthan, India.

The maiden edition of the RAG Blood Donation Camp, which was held in May 2017, recorded 57 pints of blood at the same facility.

Membership of RAG is made up of people from Rajasthan in India, who are currently living and working in Ghana.

Rajasthan is India's largest state by area, which is located on the western side of the country.

Mr Rishikant Thanvi, the Coordinator, RAG, urged everyone to donate blood; as it was a noble and a worthy cause.

He said blood was needed to save the life of a needy person; adding that 'it just takes not more than 15 minutes to donate your blood'.

'If you see the scenarios in the whole of Accra, most of the government hospitals, they have shortage of blood. We are appealing to more people to come forward and organise this type of blood camp, so that the needy people can get the blood on time. And it helps us to save somebody's life,' he said.

Mr Thanvi said blood donation besides saving the life of the recipient, was also good for the health of the donor.

'Donate blood and save somebody's life,' he said.

Mr Yashpal Singh Rathore, President, RAG, also appealed to the public to donate blood to save somebody's life.

According to history, Maharana Pratap belonged to the Sisodiya clan of Rajputs; and that the King was revered and worshipped by many royal families in Rajasthan for his bravery and courage.

The birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar, which is a lunar calendar; hence the rotation of the date.

Maharana Pratap is best known for the Battle of Haldighati against Mughal Emperor Akbar to defend his Kingdom.

The great ruler fought against foreign aggression of India, and his purpose was for human welfare.
