Muslims across Ghana have marked Eid-ul-Fitr and the end of the month of Ramadan in line with the tradition of Islam. In Bolgatanga, hundreds of Muslims from various suburbs of the municipality converged at the NAFAC ground for a congregational prayer to thank Allah for guiding them through the 30-day fast.
The Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yussif Adam, led the Muslims through the 'open-air' prayers and called for the deepening of religious tolerance in the Upper East Region and Ghana in general.
“All humans living today came from one man, Adam, created by Allah. The fact that we belong to different religions should not cause us to disagree and fight among ourselves. We are one people with one Creator.”
The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, in a brief address to the congregation at the NAFAC ground, advised that Muslims, especially the youth, should let their neighbours experience the good practices they learnt and observed in the month of Ramadan in the days ahead.
In his view, as Muslims impart their good deeds and show love and understanding in their dealings with their neighbours, they would be contributing significantly to the sustainability of peace and unity in the region to promote development.
The regional minister urged Muslim youth to uphold the virtues of Islam as well as the patience and sacrifices they made in the month of Ramadan throughout the year, and be ready to help people in need and contribute to community development at all times.
The minister called on the leadership of the Muslim community in the region to continuously advise their youth to always reject tendencies that drag the image of Islam into disrepute and cause emotional pains to others.
He called on the Muslim community to ensure that their children enjoy the benefits of the Free Senior High School, including other development-oriented initiatives introduced by the government since it assumed office.
