Nineteen people from the Konkomba tribe living in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region have been granted bail for possession of weapons.

The weapons include locally-manufactured guns, single barrel guns and bows and arrows.

The Northern Regional Police (PRO), DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, who confirmed the incident
to DAILY GUIDE, revealed that the suspects were arrested during a search in some houses in the area.

He, however, disclosed that they are on bail whilst investigations continue.

It would be recalled that police investigations at Naaduni village in Chereponi revealed that two persons from the Konkomba settlement — Kura Mustapha, 35, and Mohamadu Baafim, 42 — died as a result of the clash.

The bodies of the two deceased persons were conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) morgue for preservation and autopsy.

DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko indicated that when the police got to Achuma, near Naaduni village, some young men took to their heels upon seeing the team, but were pursued by the team.

According to him, one single barrel gun and an AK-47 rifle magazine containing 20 rounds of ammunition were found.

He disclosed that at the Naaduni village, the team visited the Konkomba settlement and observed that 10 houses, two motorbikes, five bicycles, foodstuffs such as cassava, maize, beans, rice, soya beans and pepper had been burnt; whereas a number of BB cartridges were seen at the scene.

The team also visited the Chekosis settlement and met their chief and 12 of his elders. A search conducted in the chief's palace revealed two locally-manufactured single guns, three single barrel guns and three BB live cartridges.

The chief and his elders have been arrested and detained at the Yendi Police Station to assist in investigations.
