One Killed, 28 Injured In Crashes

TWENTY-ONE PERSONS, including a 12-year-old girl, are currently battling for their lives after a Sprinter bus with registration number AS – 5579 – 17, had blasted its front tyre, crashing the Paradise Resort billboard mounted on the road side.

The incident happened on Sunday morning at 10:40 am on the Accra to Kumasi highway stretch after Asiakwa in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.

According to reports, 21 persons including the driver sustained various degrees of injury when the vehicle veered off its lane after blasting its tyre.

Concerning the Bunso incident, 13 persons among the 21 got injured. They were rushed to the Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital for treatment. Five were rushed to the Enyiresi Government Hospital, while the rest were also admitted at the Kyebi Government Hospital.

A 12-year-old girl identified as Abigail, had her left leg amputated. She had since been referred to Koforidua for further treatment.

Nkawkaw
Last Saturday, one Joseph Nyarko met his untimely death when his Toyota Corolla collided with a Mercedes Benz Sprinter in the course of overtaking at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality.

Four other persons on board the Toyota corolla car with the registration number GE 2261-17 had various degrees of injury in the crash.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that the deceased Saloon Corolla driver on reaching a section of the road at Nkawkaw-Amanfrom overtook a vehicle ahead of him.

The police spokesperson said the Saloon car collided with an oncoming Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number AS 7162-16 driven by a 29-year-old Ayaaba Haruna from the opposite direction with nine passengers on board.

''All persons on board both vehicles sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for treatment but the driver, Joseph Nyarko, died shortly on arrival'' DSP Tetteh explained.

Suhum Crash
In a related development, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh explained that on Saturday at 4:00 am, a 40-year-old driver, Kwame Amofa, was driving a Benz cargo truck with registration number WR 969-N. The truck was loaded with foodstuffs with his mate, Kwame Bright, and one Akua Hannah, who were on board. The truck was from Kumasi to Accra.

According to the regional police spokesperson, the driver upon reaching Okroase Junction at Suhum, failed to observe road diversion sign on the road.

He said in the process he crashed into the Benz cargo truck with registration number BA 1212-V that was being driven by John Agyapong, with one Fati Alhassan on board.

''The impact forced truck with registration number BA 1212-V to fall heavily on the road. It was facing Kumasi direction; the driver in charge of truck No WR 969-R was trapped and later rescued'' DSP said.

The injured persons were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital and admitted for treatment.

Accident trucks were later in the day towed from the scene, paving way for normal traffic flow.
